Ashtavinayak Temples : Vigneshwar, Ozhar
Shree Vigneshwar, Ozhar:-

The Vigneshwara Temple or Vighnahar Ganapati Temple of Ozar (also spelt as Ojhar or Ojzar) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom. The temple is one of the Ashtavinayaka, the eight revered shrines of Ganeshain Maharashtra, India. The Ganesha form worshipped here is called Vigneshwara (spelt also as Vigneshvar(a), Vigneshwar : "Lord of obstacles") or Vignahar (spelt also as Vignahara, "Remover of obstacles") and is associated with the legend of Ganesha defeating Vignasura, the demon of obstacles.

 Vigneshwar, Ozhar: History/Legend:-

Legend says that Lord Brahma, with the blessings of Lord Ganesh, was busy in creating the world. While this was going on, Lord Vishnu felt asleep and the two demons, Madhu and Kaitabh, emerged from Vishnu’s ears. They started troubling all gods, goddesses and sages. On realizing that only Lord Vishnu could kill the demons, Brahma and other gods requested him to kill them. Though Lord Vishnu fought for about 5000 years, he failed in defeating the demons. On the advice of Lord Shiva, Vishnu worshipped Lord Ganesh. Vishnu was then successful in killing the demons with the blessings of Lord Ganesha. Hence, the place where Vishnu performed penance and gained Siddhi, is known as Siddhatek and Lord Ganesh, who conferred Siddhis, is known as Siddhivinayaka. The King of Hemavati, Shri Abhinandana once performed a great sacrifice . Indra thought that this sacrifice if completed would deprive him of his post. Hence , he ordered Kala (time) to create obstacles in the sacrifice & then destroy it. The fierce looking kala not only destroyed that sacrifice but also other sacrifices & created obstacles for sages & others. Hence people called him Vighna. Slowly all vedic rites were reduced & dharma disappeared from earth. Then all Gods worshipped Gajanana & requested him to save the world from Vighneshwar. Then Ganpati took his Avatar as the son of Sage parshva & his wife Deepavatsala. Gods headed by Lord Shiva came to Parshva & requested him to relieve Ganpati for having a war with vighnasura. Sage Parshva was reluctant but Ganpati convinced him & with his permission proceeded to the Asura's abode. He sent his Ankush (Hook) which caught hold of vighnasura & brought him before Gods. But the Asura assumed many forms like cyclones , flood, fire, etc. Vinayaka destroyed all such mayas (illusions). Finally when he found that his power & tactics will not succeed , Vighnasura fell at the feet of Ganpati & asked for refuge . He requested that Ganpati should take his name along with his own. Vinayaka accepted his request & hence is called as Vighneshwara or Vighnaraj.
