Maharashtra Education Society:-
The Office of the Maharashtra Education Society, established in 1860 and registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on November 19, 1887, and the Bombay Public Trusts Act of 1950, on December 15, 1952, is situated in Pune.
The Maharashtra Education Society holds an important share. In 1860 Maharashtra Education Society (MES) formerly called as Poona Native Institutions was founded by Vaman Prabhakar Bhave, Vasudev Balvant Phadke, and Laxman Narhar Indapurkar. The great revolutionary freedom fighter Vasudev Balvant Phadke was the first Secretary and treasurer of Maharashtra Education Society.
It was formed with the aim of planting nationalistic thoughts and creating a generation of strong character and ideals. The last Hundred and Fifty two years stands testimony to the fact that the aims of the society have been achieved. MES has given several gems in various fields, not just to Maharashtra but also to the nation. What started as a simple, single seed is now an enormous tree. MES is the leading entity that provides complete education from K.G. to P.G.
Abasaheb Garware College is the only Science and Arts College of the Maharashtra Education Society. It was established in 1945, and then named as M.E.S. College of Arts and Science, it imparted primary education in languages and social sciences, and a few subjects in science.

Library:-
Abasaheb Garware College Library works as an important central support system for the entire college catering to the information needs of both streams, arts and science. It also serves as knowledge center for junior, senior, post graduate as well as research centers and departments of the entire college. The library is open from 8.00am to 5.45 pm except for Sunday and holidays.
Objectives of the Library:-
To cater to the curricular, intellectual and creative information needs of teachers and students by providing latest and relevant information sources.
To act as a resource bank by acquiring required information sources by collaboration with different libraries.
To promote reading habits amongst users by conducting book exhibitions.
To organize Information Literacy Programme helping the students to use the library effectively.

The committee constitutes of Principal as a Chairman: Dr. Shrikant Gupta
Librarian as secretary: Dr. Vandana Shelar
And all the Heads of PG Departments, Registrar and Accountant as committee members.

The Library is located in the Central Building Ground Floor with the total area of 5000 Sq ft. It got established along with the establishment of the college The first book accessioned was in 1960 entitled “VidnayanVikasAniManavSanskriti written by Badave DV
It has got 23 Computers and one server in Local Area Network LAN. The entire functioning of the library is performed by SLIM 21 advanced library software with OPAC facility provided all all the departments in the college. With the assistance UGC XI plan library has developed national resource center for the college students with the efficient computer facility with the fast computers with internet connectivity and assess to UGC INFLIBNET - NLIST programme. The machines are supported with power back up facility for uninterrupted usage.
Library Layout and Sections:-
The library possesses Technical section, Circulation section, Periodical section, Reading Hall and Staff reading Section , Stack room, Reference section, Reprography section and Internet facility for the efficient working.
Sports:-
Sports activities have improved significantly, with the Director of Physical Education (Dr. Asha Bengle) actively promoting indoor and outdoor games. Several students have participated in games at the Zonal, State and National levels and won accolades for the same.
The last five years has seen an increase in participation of our students in sports at all levels (University, Inter-zonal, Inter collegiate, State and National). Students have won medals in Shooting. Archery, Body Physique and Karate at the Inter-University, State and National levels.
Host-ship for Pune city Zonal Sports Committee was presided over by the Prin. S. G. Gupta with the help of Dr. Asha Bengle as Secretary, for consecutive academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12. A sport leadership for Pune city was bestowed on our college for two consecutive years and organization of sports activity was done on the campus. Diverse sports events took place in this college itself and immensely motivated our students to participate and excel the sport.
National Cadet Corps (NCC):-Introduction:
After independence, there was a public demand that military training should be given to youth of the country in national interest for molding the character of young men and woman on right path. Youth is the cream of society and real wealth of nation. It is on their quality that the greatness of the nation depands, because the youth of the today are the leaders of tomorrow.
Introduction of NCC in the colleges:-
The government of India passed an act in the Parliament to form the National Cadet Corps in the year 1948.
Aims of NCC.
To develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular out look, spirit of adventure and the ideal of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.
To create, a human resources of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life, including Armed forces and always available to serve the nation.
To create, a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up career in the Armed forces.
